What is a product roadmap?
A product roadmap is a high-level plan showing what a team intends to build, organized by priority or timeframe, that communicates direction to customers, stakeholders, or both.
A roadmap is not a project plan with dates and deliverables — that's a backlog or a sprint board. A roadmap communicates direction: what's being considered, what's committed, and roughly in what order, without necessarily promising a ship date. That distinction matters because a roadmap that reads like a contract creates problems the moment priorities shift, which they always do.
Roadmaps come in two flavors: internal (for the team and stakeholders, more detailed) and public (for customers, usually simplified to status categories like Planned, In Progress, and Completed). A public roadmap does double duty — it sets expectations and it's also evidence that the team is listening, especially when items on it trace back to specific customer requests.
How Feevox handles this
Feevox's roadmap is status-based and public by default: ideas move through Pending, Under Review, Planned, In Progress, and Completed, and every voter can see the status of what they asked for — without you maintaining a separate slide deck or doc alongside the actual work.
